Adding Item Categories / Category Level Commissioning

In your Ascend account, you have the option to add item categories. Category level commissioning allows you to set up different commission rates based on the category of their products.  For example, pay 3% commission on electronics and 5% commission on furniture.  This is beneficial because it allows you to commission at a higher rate for a category of products that has a higher profit margin. This also gives you the ability to view item category in your item level reporting.

Please note - In order to utilize category level commissioning, your program will need to use our dynamic tracking pixel and pass Category ID either through the pixel or through bulk upload.  If you have any questions or would like to upgrade your program’s tracking to dynamic commissioning, please reach out to Support.

To add new item categories, go to the settings tabItem Categories. From the Item Categories Page, Select the Add New Category Button to add a new category.

The category ID will be passed in your pixel or batch file.  It is important to make sure that the Category ID that is created, matches what is passed.

  • Category ID is a 64 character alphanumeric field
  • Category Name is a 32 character alphanumeric field

To update an existing category, double click on the pencil icon to the right of the category, you would like to update.

Setting up category level commissioning:

After you create all categories that you will use in your rules, you need to create a new term.  Choose Commission Terms from the settings tab to open the publisher program terms page.  From this page, select create new term.

After you create the term, you can add rules to the term by clicking on the ‘Add New Rule’ button. The next step is to add a condition to the newly created rule to match an item category.
