KPI Tracking

Key Performance Indicator (KPI) tracking functionality gives you the opportunity to track to your unique business goals in real-time.

Tracking KPIs are an important part of measuring the overall success of your affiliate lifecycle. KPIs are to be set monthly in your account . You can monitor up to three KPIs per month. If KPIs are not adjusted prior to the first day of each month, the previous months’ KPIs will roll over. Once the month begins, the current month’s KPIs cannot be adjusted.

Pepperjam has 9 essential KPI’s to choose from, which are listed below:

  • Average Order Value (AOV)
  • Spend
  • Click Active Publishers
  • Conversion Rate
  • Percentage of New Users (available to those utilizing the dynamic pixel)
  • Return on Ad Spend (ROAS)
  • Revenue Active Publishers
  • Revenue Growth
  • Traffic Growth

It is important to determine what you value the most and what the primary goals of the affiliate channel are prior to setting your KPI’s in Ascend. KPI goals are set for the upcoming month and should be reviewed, updated, and maintained on a monthly basis in order to accurately reflect any changes in your affiliate strategy and program.

Setting KPI Goals:

  1. Go to the Settings Page and click on KPI Goals.
  2. Select between 1 and 3 top KPI’s that you wish to focus on for the upcoming month.
  3. KPI’s could be set as actual values, but some are dynamically calculated as a percentage increase.  If a dynamically calculated goal is desired, choose Percentage Increase MoM, otherwise, just select Actual Value.
  4. If using a dynamically calculated percentage, the you must choose the desired increase MoM.
  5. Once all goals and calculations have been entered, click the Save Goals button.

KPI Reports:

Your dashboard will display the goals and actuals for the program’s  KPIs. You can adjust this to display the current or previous month. When viewing previous month’s data, a Goal Met column will display to indicate if the KPI for that month was achieved. KPI tracking also has its own reporting function within Pepperjam. To locate your KPI reporting, go to the reports tab and click on KPIs. Although you will choose 1 to 3 top KPIs to focus on per month in the program’s dashboard, goals can also be set for all KPIs and tracked within the KPI reporting section.

Best Practices for KPI Goal Setting:

  • It is important to understand each KPI that is available and determine what is most valuable to your brand prior to setting KPI’s in Pepperjam.
  • Evaluate and review your KPI’s monthly to determine if adjustments need to be made to specific goals that are set.
  • Be sure the goals for each KPI accurately reflect on performance and expectations for the program.
  • Advertisers are not required to set goals for all KPI’s, but we highly recommend having these set up for your top KPIs to help gauge the program’s performance.
  • KPI goals must be set by the last day of the month.  If not, the previous month KPI’s will be locked and will be the goals used for the upcoming month.

KPI Calculations and Definitions:

KPI Tracking Options Description
Average Order Value (AOV)
  • Percentage increase month over month
  • AOV Currency Value

The average currency value of all conversions that have been attributed publishers within the affiliate channel.  If a transaction is adjusted to a different value, the new value, not the original value, will be counted in the calculation of this KPI.

AOV is calculated using the following formula: (Sales Amount+ Lead Amount - Corrections)/(Number of Sales + Number of Leads)**

Spend
  • Monthly Actual Spend

This KPI will allow the program to track towards spend.  The program’s monthly commissions will be the target for this KPI.  (i.e. The entry will be a straight value entered in the current operating currency along with the other KPIs.)

The actuals for this KPI will include the following values:

  • Affiliate Commissions
  • Network Commissions
  • Bonuses/Slotting fees
  • CPC

All other fees will not be included in this KPI, including but not limited to management fees.

Note: This KPI is the only KPI whose goal is to stay under the target.  All other KPIs goals are to meet or exceed a target.

**This KPI will be calculated using Summary data, so it may not directly align with invoices.

Click Active Publishers
  • Percentage increase month over month
  • Number of Publishers
The total number of distinct publishers that have at least one click attributed to them throughout the reporting period.
Conversion Rate
  • Conversion Rate Percentage

The percentage of affiliate attributed visits to the site that resulted in conversions compared to affiliate attributed visits that did not result in a conversion.

Please note - Even if a transaction’s commission was cancelled/corrected, the related conversion itself will still be included in the calculation of this KPI.  This is because while the transaction may have been canceled it still resulted in a sale originally.

This is calculated by the (Number of Conversions + Number of Leads)/Number of Clicks*100 to get percentage rate.

New vs Returning
  • Actual Percentage of New Consumers

The percentage of consumers that are new to the site compared to the percentage of consumers that are returning.

**This KPI can only be utilized by advertisers who utilize Dynamic tracking and are sending the New to File parameter.

Return on Ad Spend (ROAS)
  • Percentage increase month over month
  • Actual ROA

This value represents the revenue earned per the amount spent on the corresponding advertising.  Transaction corrections will be accounted for in the calculation of this KPI as they become available.  If a transaction is adjusted to a different value, the new value, not the original value, will be counted in the calculation of this KPI.

ROAS is calculated by: (Sales + Lead Amount - Corrections)/Affiliate Commissions.

Revenue Active Publishers
  • Percentage increase month over month
  • Number of Publishers
The total number of distinct publishers that have at least one sale/lead attributed to them throughout the reporting period.  Any transaction cancellations must be accounted for in the calculation of these figures as they become available, meaning if a transaction is cancelled it will no longer be counted in the calculation of this KPI.
Revenue Growth
  • Percentage increase month over month
  • Actual Revenue

The total currency value of all affiliate attributed conversions generated.  Transaction corrections will be accounted for in the calculation of these figures as they become available.  If a transaction is adjusted to a different value, the new value, not the original value, will be counted in the calculation of this KPI.

Revenue is calculated using the following formula: Sales Amount + Lead Amount – Corrections

Traffic Growth
  • Percentage increase month over month
  • Actual Clicks
The total number of clicks which can be attributed to an affiliate within consumers’ click streams throughout the reporting period.  This includes all sessions regardless of whether a conversion occurred or not.
